With the money we have currently raised, the school will be sponsoring services broadcast on December 12 and January 9. How many of you own a piece of jewelry depicting a cross? Many Christians choose to wear such a symbol as earrings, necklaces, bracelets, or even permanent tattoos on their bodies. Have you ever thought about why? Crucifixion was a brutal method of public execution used in ancient times. Most notably used by the Roman empire, it was also prevalent in eastern empires like the Persians and Seleucids, and also in Africa with the Carthaginians. It was designed to maximize both pain and humiliation. Criminals (usually political) were severely beaten, forced to carry their own cross, fastened to the beams, and hoisted into the air publicly. Notices of their crimes were often affixed above their heads, and, to increase their psychological pain, the condemned many times had their clothes removed. There they would hang, in a very public place, with crowds gathered around, until they either died of asphyxiation or organ failure. If that took too long, their legs were broken with a club to hasten

Pizza Fundraiser Thank you to everyone who helped out during our pizza fundraiser last Saturday. It was a hectic day filled with hard work (and more than a little chaos), but also a lot of laughter and fellowship. We have a lot of fun pictures taken by Mr. Scharf that will be displayed on the Commons TV as you are dropping off and picking up students, so be sure to take a look at those. Our final results for the fundraiser were: 2nd grade takes first place with 756 total pizzas sold Total profit from the fundraiser to be put toward playground updates - $18,509.30! We will be reviewing the results of the pizza fundraiser and beginning our planning for next time. If you have any suggestions for improvement, please either email or speak to Principal Fuerstenau. Also, if you did not pick up your pizza orders yet, you may do so at any time; they are in the walk-in cooler in the church basement. Ask for help from our office staff if you have questions. 11/8/2021 Principal's Note

If you Google the word "holiday," you'll get the following definition at the top of the screen: "a day of festivity or recreation when no work is done" (Oxford Languages). That probably fits most of the holidays we experience in the United States. When you think of a holiday, you probably picture Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, etc. All of those holidays are festive celebrations of something. However, we have a few holidays in our country that don't necessarily follow that same pattern. Memorial Day and Veterans' Day are two holidays that aren't necessarily festive, and while we certainly associate recreation with Memorial Day, that isn't the point of the holiday. Veterans' Day and Memorial Day, in my humble opinion, fit better with Merriam-Webster's top definition of the word holiday: "holy day," but not holy in the sense of perfection like we use in the Bible. One of the definitions of "holy" is "v

Teachers Use New Display Technology

Image
Mr. Luebke in Action We were blessed with 13 Newline 75” interactive touch displays, Chromeboxes, and document cameras. The large screen 4K touch displays replace our vintage SMART boards and projectors. The onboard Chromeboxes (different version of Chromebooks) allow teachers to access all their files loaded in their Google Drives without added cables or devices. With cables, any device with an HDMI jack can be connected. The touch screen capability enables teachers or students to use their fingers to click, write, and annotate documents, forms, or anything displayed. And because these are connected to the Internet, teachers can show live video or anything online. The document cameras project any opaque objects directly to the screen. Thus far, nine of our rooms are equipped with them. Feel free to stop by one of these classrooms for a live demonstration.

11/1/2021 Principal's Note

Sometimes, work is hard. Just ask your child when he or she receives an assignment for a project or a paper. You probably don't need to do that to agree with me though; you know work can be hard. Your boss may ask you to do something unreasonable; your coworkers may slack off and leave you to shoulder the burden meant for everyone to share; you may get reprimanded (or worse) for something that was the fault of someone else. The list could go on and on, and any one of those things could cause you to resist waking up and getting ready to go on a Monday morning. If your job is to stay home with your family right now, work is often hard, and almost always thankless. Sometimes, work is fun. Just ask your child when he or she gets to play a game in class, create a colorful class presentation on a topic that interests him or her, or is prepared for the test and knocks it out of the park. Again, you probably don't need to do that though. You've had days where you really enjoyed you
