Thank you to all who attended our Farm Field Trip!  It was a fabulous day learning in the middle of God's creation all about His creation!  I just

Report Cards Available June 8th

Report cards will be available to pick up in the school office on June 8th.  Along with each report card will be a  National Child Identification Kit . Emanuel has received these kits as part of a collaboration between Alliant Energy, the Green Bay Packers, and the Department of Justice as part of their effort to provide every Wisconsin learner with the National Child Identification Kit.  This community service initiative is dedicated to reducing the number of missing children by providing parents and guardians with a tool that they can use to protect their children. The ID Kit allows parents to collect specific information by easily recording the physical characteristics and fingerprints of their children on identification cards that are   confidentially kept at home by the parents or guardian.   If ever needed, this ID Kit will give authorities vital information to assist their efforts and locate a missing child.

Worship Schedule Reminder: There will be no worship on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30.

LIE #8: “God Is Distant and Disinterested in What Happens”

Image
Deism is the view that God created the world but then removed himself from its operation, like a clockmaker who creates the clock but then lets it run on its own. In other words, deists believe God is not directly involved in this world, but deists aren’t the only ones who think this way. Because of the suffering that exists, many people—and at times this even applies to us—think that God is distant and disinterested. They think he doesn’t really care about the evil that exists. So, does God care? The goal of this lesson is to show not only that God does care for this world but that he is deeply interested in each one of us.  Come, join us on Sunday, May 22 at 9:15 AM.

05/19/2022 Principal's Note

As a school-aged child, you remember the scene. The class rushes out to recess, and as they reach the playground, the chorus begins: "Johnny and Becky, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" Or maybe it's the whispering in the hallway: "Did you see what she's wearing today? How can she even leave the house like that?" Perhaps it's at basketball practice and a teammate misses an easy layup or free throw; laughter and jeering erupt from the other players. In all of these scenarios, an "old" saying that has not aged well might come to mind: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Except they do. I've worked at schools for long enough to see the damage words can do. I've seen the frustration in a student's body language when classmates tease and won't stop after being asked. I've seen the broken heart written all over a child's face when someone they thought was a friend or teammate utterl

LIE #7: “It Doesn’t Matter How God Made the World”

Image
The Darwinian theory of evolution popularized the idea that God did not create the world. Despite the hundreds of references to creation in the Bible, even Christians have questioned whether it’s necessary to believe that God created the world in six 24-hour days. However, if one were to take this line of thinking to its theological conclusion, the veracity of all of Scripture would be in doubt. So does it matter? This lesson will help us answer with a definitive “Yes!”  Come, join us on Sunday, May 15 at 9:15 AM.

05/12/2022 Principal's Note

A month ago, we were averaging around 38 degrees for a high temperature in our area of Wisconsin; today, it will be 92 degrees. Welcome to spring in the Midwest! Aside from states where you can drive from the beach to the peak of a mountain in a few hours, I'm not sure there is anywhere else in the country where seasons collide as drastically. We are certainly accustomed to sudden changes in Wisconsin! Change can be difficult. There are pages of jokes about Lutherans and change, and if you have been a member of a Lutheran church for your entire life, you probably have heard many of them. You can see another example if you spend a day in one of our classrooms at Emanuel when the regular teacher is out sick and a substitute teacher is filling in. Especially with our younger students, when that substitute doesn't do something exactly the same way as the regular classroom teacher, it can be very difficult for them to accept. These are small, sometimes funny, examples of how hard ch

Will your family be around this summer? We are looking for families who can help to make Emanuel's weekend worship time welcoming and friendly by serving as ushers. The job is easy and older students are invited to help out alongside their grown-ups! This is a great way for new confirmands to live out their faith and help out their church family (we're looking at YOU, 8th graders!) :-) If you're interested in more information, come to the USHER TRAINING MEETING on Sunday, May 22, at 9:15am in between services. You'll learn everything you need to know, and we'll show you how to sign up to help out. You can serve as much or as little as you'd like. Hope to see some new faces there!  Questions? Contact Worship Director Kate Tiefel at ktiefel@emanuelnl.org.

LIE #6: “A God of Love Wouldn’t Send People to Hell”

Image
The logic goes this way: If God is loving, then the concept of eternal suffering for temporal sin is incompatible with his character. That would make God a monstrous God. It seems logical, but it is not biblical. Nor is it truly logical, as we shall see. We will explore the dangerous ramifications of this lie and provide a biblical rationale to use as an answer when someone states this lie.   Come, join us on Sunday, May 8 at 9:15 AM.

05/04/2022 Principal's Note

Job 19:25-27 I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end, he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes--I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me! We live in a world where most people believe there is no absolute truth. What's true for you may not be true for them, and vice-versa. You might think doing drugs is wrong, but for some, it feels right, so it must be right! To us, abortion is murder; to some, it's just a woman making decisions about her body. The Bible says that homosexuality is a sin, just like any other; but many people say, "No, that's not true! It's just an alternate lifestyle!" People want a truth that fits their earthly wants and needs. To the world, truth has to be comfortable; if it's uncomfortable, then it must not be true for me! Unfortunately, there is absolute truth, and the truth is that we are all sinners. God laid down h

Don't Forget to Thank A Teacher!

Can you believe we have entered the last month of school before summer break?! It sounds like the perfect time to show our AMAZING Emanuel teachers just how much we appreciate them!  Teacher Appreciation Week is underway, but there is still time to send in a gift or donation. If you would like to send in a monetary gift to go towards Teacher Appreciation week, please bring it to the school office before the end of the week. Thank you to all that have donated and volunteered to help make the week a success!
