Coming This Weekend: A Story of Spiritual Insincerity

Image
You have maybe heard the accusation or perhaps even made it yourself: “He’s so fake!” That charge claims someone’s friendliness or kindness is a sham. Such insincerity bothers us. We would generally rather someone be honest about how they feel about us than be fake. Through a story, Jesus teaches us that God feels the same. God doesn’t want us to simply go through religious motions like some sort of show. He sees right through that. God’s desire is that our repentance would demonstrate sincere sorrow over sin. God wants us to see the grace and forgiveness he has shown us in Christ, and in response, to love him back deeply and sincerely. Want to hear more? See you this weekend: Saturday at 5:15 p.m. • Sunday at 8 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. • Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Congratulations, Avacyn and Vayda!

Image
This morning, we had some amazing news to share! Two of our fantastic students, Avacyn from first grade and Vayda from fifth grade achieved something truly special. They were honored with prestigious awards by Amvets Post 45 Commander Armin Conradt. Each of these remarkable students received first-place awards and checks for $50. Avacyn's award recognizes her outstanding talent in the Amvets coloring contest, which she participated in last year when she was just a kindergartener. On the other hand, Vayda's award celebrates her creativity in the Amvets poster contest, where she submitted her artwork last year as a fourth-grade student. Here's the incredible part: Both Avacyn and Vayda not only secured first place at the local level here in New London but also clinched the top spot at the state level in their respective competitions. Their submissions have now advanced to the national level of the competition. We couldn't be more proud of these two young talents. What an

News from our Call Center Training Facility

Image
To the untrained eye, it looks like we're training first and second-grade students to fill call center positions in a decade or so. In reality, our younger students (second grade and below) have the opportunity to use high-end oral reading fluency software. Reading fluency tests are designed to evaluate oral reading fluency, basic reading skills, and literal comprehension. They serve as a quick and effective tool to identify students who may be at risk of encountering reading challenges, including those associated with dyslexia. These tests provide valuable insights into students' reading abilities, allowing educators to track progress from year to year. To learn more about these tests, visit www.nwea.org/map-reading-fluency/ .

New Windows are Here!

Image
After we finished upgrading our office computers to Windows 11 a few weeks ago, I got wind of something exciting: talk of another Windows upgrade. But to my surprise, this was not Windows 12 and these weren't computer upgrades at all! Instead, they were upgrades to the actual windows in our campus buildings, like the music room, Tiger Cub Care room, and a few other spots. We're truly grateful for the efforts of our Board of Parish Property committee! It's amazing how a simple upgrade can make such a difference.

Coming This Weekend: A Story of Perplexing Generosity

Image
Give a single bag of M&Ms to two four-year-olds and tell them to share. You will witness counting done with accountant-like precision. Each child will get an equal amount of candy because that is fair. Human beings have an incredibly strong sense of fairness. That is why it can be so perplexing when we see how God dispenses blessing and grace. We see people who mock God who are more prosperous than believers. We see people who convert on their deathbeds, and Scripture tells us they obtain the same salvation as someone who has been Christian all his life. How is that fair? Through a simple story, Jesus teaches us a profound truth. We need to stop expecting God to be fair. God is not fair. He does not give us what we deserve, and that’s called mercy. In fact, he gives us what we don’t deserve, and that’s called grace. No, God is not fair. He is breathtakingly generous.  Want to hear more? See you this weekend: Saturday at 5:15 p.m. • Sunday at 8 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. • Monday at 6:30

Pentecost Season 2023: Tell Us A Story - New Sermon Series on Jesus' Parables

Image
Much of what Jesus has to say to you and me is contained within his parables. Parables are simple little stories that contain profound truths about life and eternity. For the believer, a parable takes a challenging spiritual fact and makes it clear. However, since the parable conveys spiritual truth, for someone without faith, the story remains only that—a story. Therefore, our prayer for this worship series is that Christ would send us his Holy Spirit so that we might receive the peace and power Jesus offers us in his parables. Tell us a story, Jesus! Our worship follows this path: 9•24 – A Story of Perplexing Generosity 10•1 – A Story of Spiritual Insincerity 10•8 – A Story of Reckless Patience 10•15 – A Story of Insane Rejection

October 1, 2023 - 8:00 am service - We sing in church! Save the date! Cain and Abel were the first babies, the first family with Adam and Eve. We learned this week that from the beginning of time, family has been hard. Sin causes dysfunction and problems.  Cain became so angry with his brother, he murdered him. The children understood that murder is a sin. It was a bit harder to understand that pushing or hitting , even for a cause, are sins. We pray every day that the Lord would strengthen us so that we might do what is right. We know we will fail because we are sinful. Then, we pray for forgiveness. Jesu
