Midweek Lenten Service: Wednesday, March 19

Image
The Second and Third Commandments both relate to how our merciful God saves us. The Second Commandment deals with God’s name. The Third Commandment deals with the Sabbath rest God wants his children to enjoy. Disobedience of these commandments are attempted acts of spiritual suicide. If we continue in this rebellion, we are guaranteeing that hell is our eternal home. So, this week, we ask the Spirit to give us the ability to sincerely pray, “Lord, have mercy, for demonstrating irreverence for your name and despising your Sabbath rest.” Join us for our upcoming midweek Lent series: Lord, Have Mercy. Special Midweek Devotions are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. each Wednesday evening during Lent. Join us for our Lenten suppers, available in the Fellowship Hall, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday.

Anticipating Worship: Second Sunday in Lent, March 16, 2025—Safety for Those Searching for Security

Image
Jesus was profoundly disappointed by what the religious leaders offered to him: “Take the easy way out, Jesus, or you’re going to end up getting hurt.” His response: “Oh, Jerusalem, why are you so stuck in this way of thinking!” So often, God sought to bind his people to himself in covenant love, but like a harried hen chasing after her chicks, Israel was not willing. They looked for carnal security everywhere and anywhere else. Instead of their same stupidity, we consider the words of the psalmist, “Why are you so downcast my soul? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him!”  Want to hear more? See you this weekend: Saturday at 5:15 p.m. • Sunday at 8 a.m. • Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Setting the Table for Success: Our Pizza Story Continues!

Image
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made our January 2025 Pizza Fundraiser a delicious success! Your support—pizza making, purchasing, and prayers—helped us raise over $28,000 and deliver 6,289 pizzas. We're thrilled to announce the 15 new cafeteria tables have arrived and are being set up this week for our students to enjoy! A special thank you to Dennis Glocke, our head of maintenance, and volunteer Lee Steingraber for their hard work unpacking and assembling the tables. Your collective efforts have truly made a difference. Mark your calendars for next year's pizza extravaganza on January 17, 2026. We look forward to seeing you there!

Midweek Lenten Service: Wednesday, March 12

When God tells us not to have any other gods, our sinful nature’s first inclination is to think it is because God is a narcissist who craves attention. That is projecting what we are often like onto him. But God commands us to have no other gods, not because he seeks attention, but because he knows no one loves us as much as he does, no one who can care for us anywhere close to us as well as he can. It is he, by an infinite margin, who can best care for us. Therefore, when we love or trust anyone or anything else more than God, the sin doesn’t simply offend him. It is incredibly self-destructive. As we begin our worship series on the Ten Commandments, by the Spirit teach us to say, “Lord, have mercy, for our incessant idolatry.” Join us for our upcoming midweek Lent series: Lord, Have Mercy. Special Midweek Devotions are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. each Wednesday evening during Lent. Join us for our Lenten suppers, available in the Fellowship Hall, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. each Wed...

Jesus teaches us this lesson with his parable(story) of the Good Samaritan. In his story, Jesus shows a man who showed love even when he wasn't "supposed to."  Two men who outwardly said they loved the Lord didn't stop to help the man who had been beaten. The Samaritan not only stopped when he was the least likely candidate, but also helped and cared for the beaten man. Jesus tel...

Anticipating Worship: First Sunday in Lent, March 9, 2025—Triumph for Those Terrorized by Temptation

Image
There are few things that crush the human soul more than the realization of helplessness. Such was the reality confronting the demoralized army of Israel and their disgraced king, Saul. Every day, the evil threats of their giant enemy echoed across the valley and into their ears. But one day, a new champion stood up in their defense. David defeated Goliath and left us a great story of the triumph of good versus evil. But it is more than a story. It is a picture of the greater battle fought and won by Christ on behalf of the Church opposed by her mortal enemy, Satan. The relief we need desperately is not found in ourselves but in the sinless substitution of Jesus.   Want to hear more? See you this weekend: Saturday at 5:15 p.m. • Sunday at 8 a.m. • Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
