In this final difficult lesson in our Lenten journey, Jesus gives us relief from the sins of stubbornness. Israel is a striking example of what can happen when we reject the Savior God sent in deference to another kind of Savior, one which ‘fits in a box’ that we prefer. Paul draws the balance between what we want and what God wants, what we value and what God values: so much of what we treasure is trash. So much that the world considers trash is our treasure. Join us for a special Spring Brunch hosted by our neighbors at St. Peter Lutheran Church! We're invited to hear Kristi Meyer, a woman of remarkable faith and intellect, share her insights on discovering God's calling. Kristi is a mathematics professor at Wisconsin Lutheran College, Communications Coordinator at St. John's in Wauwatosa, and a member of the WELS Women's Ministry Executive Team. Her diverse background, including a Master of Arts in Theological Studies and a PhD in Mathematics, provides a unique perspective on faith and vocation. Kristi's presentation, "Bloom Where You Are Planted," will explore how God empowers us to use our unique skills to find clarity and purpose. She will reflect on her own experiences and encourage us to embrace our individual gifts. This gathering is inspired by 1 Peter 4:10: "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms."...

We use the word “integrity” to refer to something being in good condition. We use "integrity” in reference to people too. Generally, if we speak of someone having integrity, we mean that there’s a wholeness to their character. The final four commandments get at the question of personal integrity. When someone steals, lies, or covets, it is a clear indication that their values and desires are highly improper. They say and do bad things because they are bad. Thus, when we break one of these commandments, it is pointless to make excuses. Let us simply cry out, “Lord, have mercy, for failing to live with integrity!” Join us for our upcoming midweek Lent series: Lord, Have Mercy. Special Midweek Devotions are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. each Wednesday evening during Lent. Join us for our Lenten suppers, available in the Fellowship Hall, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday.

Jesus needed to remind Israel of the risks they were running in relationship to God. At times, they reveal the traits of both sons in the story. First, taking the goodness of God for granted, and then, pathetically pleading their goodness to God based on their own self-righteousness. Jesus' lesson is a painfully powerful one: God at all times revealed the traits of the father to them: forgiveness, correction, and an outpouring of love. Such is the kind of rejoicing that the angels witness whenever a sinner is brought past the grief of their guilt to the gracious forgiveness of God.  Want to hear more?
