Emanuel Lutheran sixth and eighth graders use their guitar skills learned in Mrs. Tiefel's music courses to accompany our kindergarten, first, and second-grade students.

Monday Update - 02/28/2022

School health is fairly good. Our staff is healthy, and students are healthy for the most part. We do seem to have a mild stomach bug starting to circulate, so be on the lookout for symptoms. Remember, if your child has a temperature of 100.4 or higher or is vomiting, they must be symptom-free without medication for 24-hours before coming back to school. Please click here  to see our important dates that are coming up this week and beyond. The Monday Update will be added to the Tiger Talk blog moving forward; I will still email it out as well for the remainder of the school year, but we will transition to blog-only for the 2022/2023 school year. Important bus update!  The CDC has changed the definition of "public transportation" to exclude school district busing. Effective immediately, face masks will be OPTIONAL on New London school district buses. This includes our field trip to FVL tomorrow, and any regular bus riders. If you have questions, you can contact the ...

The Season of Lent is Coming...

Image
Do you sometimes feel “crushed”? In a broken world, it is simply a matter of time before we feel crushed. This is why we need Lent. Sin is the ultimate source of all the crushing moments within life, and our sin even crushed Christ. Yet on Easter Sunday morning, Jesus took up his life again and crushed both death and the serpent’s head. Yes, Lent is a solemn season. But it is also a season of great hope.

02/23/2022 Principal's Note

One of my favorite books of the Bible is the book of Judges. Judges has a lot of action in it, with famous people like Samson and Gideon. Whenever I would teach this book to my students, they would get excited, and when students are excited to hear God's Word, that makes me excited too! Throughout the book of Judges, the Israelites fell into a pattern. The great leaders Moses, Aaron, and Joshua had died, and the Israelites were effectively leaderless. As such, they started to wander from God and worship false idols. That made God angry, who then allowed the Israelites to be defeated by their enemies. The Israelites realized the error of their ways and repented, and God sent a judge, a champion in battle, to lead them to victory against their foes. "Then the LORD raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of these raiders" (Judges 2:16, NIV 2011). This cycle repeated time and time again. Fast-forward thousands of years, and here we are, suffering from the same cycle...

02/16/2022 Principal's Note

Nobody likes to be in debt. Most people will do whatever they can to avoid owing someone else money. When Mrs. Fuerstenau and I were married, I was still in school at Martin Luther College, so before our wedding, we attended a pre-marriage workshop that the school did for engaged students. Much of the time was spent discussing finances because MLC knew that most of our called workers have debt to deal with when they graduate. For most of the couples there, this was doubly true because both people in the relationship were training to be called workers. If you want to go to college and get a degree, debt is almost unavoidable these days. Having debt hang over you is not an ideal situation. What other debts do we owe? Car loans, mortgages, credit cards? What about the debt our sin creates? There's one debt we can never pay off! If you thought about sin as a loan, it would be the worst loan ever. Think about all the times you sin during the day: each sinful thought, word, or action. Th...

02/09/2022 Principal's Note

I was searching for some inspirational quotes to use in my message today, and I came across this one by Beau Taplin, who is apparently an author/poet of some sort (don't ask me anything else about him; I have no idea): "Whoever says the small things don't matter has never seen a match start a wildfire." I also stumbled upon this one from Vincent Van Gogh (him I know!): "Great things are done by a series of small things brought together." Both quotes have the same basic idea: we often underestimate the impact something small may have on the big picture.  Let me give you a ridiculous, over-exaggerated example. The CEO of a multi-billion dollar company forgets to stop and get creamer for his morning coffee on the way home from work one evening. Not a big deal, right? The next morning, he wakes up like usual, but when he goes to have his coffee, there is no creamer. He can't drink black coffee, so he rushes out the door, planning to stop at the local coffee ...

02/02/2022 Principal's Note

If you haven't sat down and watched the movie Encanto with your family, I highly recommend it. Of course, the animation is eye-catching and you will never stop singing the songs (Google "We Don't Talk About Bruno"), it is a Disney movie after all. There is a great message about an individual's worth running deeper than their outward gifts and talents (hello, redeemed children of God!). When I watched the movie with my family, I couldn't help but connect with one of the characters, and if you are an administrator, manager, or the one who keeps your household running, you probably will too: Luisa. Long story short and with as few spoilers as possible, Luisa possesses superhuman strength. Throughout the course of the movie, you find out that Luisa is feeling overwhelmed with the burdens and responsibilities she is asked to carry and ascribes her worth to whether she can carry them without buckling under their weight. "Who am I if I can't carry it all?...

"Starting Point" Bible Basics Class

Image
"Starting Point" is Emanuel's Bible basics course taught by Pastor Marcus Schulz, Tuesday nights at 6:30pm.  A new class kicks off on Tuesday, Feb. 22.  We spend a few minutes each night finding the foundations of our faith and discussing how these teachings apply to our lives.  Have you ever asked yourself, “how well do I know the basics of the Bible?” “How well do I know what my kids are being taught about God in School?” “How can I get better motivated to attend worship and bible class?” or, “How can I learn God’s direction for my life and my family?” We’ve got the answer for you! We invite everyone: new members, long-time members, teenagers, grandparents, and everyone in between. This course will be available both in person, and online via Facebook Live - go to  Facebook.com/emanuelnl Registering in advance by contacting the office at 920-982-5444 is encouraged, however, walk-ins are welcome. Childcare will be provided upon request.
