- Abraham is known as an example of faith in the Bible. This week we learned why. He waited and waited until he was 100 years old for God to keep His promise to give him a son. What joy and excitement when God did bless him with a son! Our promise from the Lord is Heaven! He has already saved us through His some Jesus. Now we wait for the rest of the promise, and we know God will take us to Heaven because He always keeps His promises!
- October Thrive Time Video This month, we will be learning about the amygdala in the brain. This is the part of the brain that helps us to think critically. It is fully developed by age 25-27. It is like a muscle in that the more you use it, the more it develops. A big take away from this video that I gathered was the "how" to strengthen it. One example was giving choices and letting them live with it. In the video, "Would you like long or short pajamas?" When the child chooses long pajamas even when it is warm, the grown-up says, "You'll be ok." The child is hot and then remembers she/he didn't like that. A school example is: "Would you like to have snack or continue to play?" When the child is hungry after the time of snack expires, I have to say no. The child learns to say yes to snack before time expires. The biggest trick as the grown-up is to allow the child to "suffer" the outcome of their decisions. As long as we know they are safe either way, allow them to choose! This makes you a brain developer!
- In movement time, we began learning some new skills in phy ed! At the beginning of the year, we focus on all the different motions are body makes. This past week we worked on one foot hopping, staying in one spot(on our dot is our home), and walking among friends without crashing(taking a walk in the neighborhood).
- A large part of our week was spent completing our MAPS Reading Fluency testing on the chromebooks. The children did quite well. They were so proud of themselves for doing their computer work! The information gathered during this testing period will be put together for parent/teacher conferences at the end of the 1st Quarter!
- The last several weeks we did an author study on Eric Carle. We read many of his books, talked about him, and learned that he is an author. This last week we read social emotional books by other authors. My goal is that the children know that the person who wrote the story is the author. Author was our vocabulary word.
COME! COME! COME! We sing in church! October 5 is the first time we get to praise Jesus in church. We sing at the 8:00 am service. Please arrive by 7:45 am in the church basement. If you do not know where this is, please ask me during the week! We will sit together as a class and meet you when the service is over in the Gathering Space near the Connection Corner. We are singing a new song called, "I'm Gonna Live So God Can Use Me!" It is linked below so you can practice. It is super fun to sing this one, so grown ups, sing along! I'm Gonna Live So God Can Use Me (Just press the video button when you scroll down a little.)
- We are excited to travel to the Police and Fire Stations on Thursday, October 9! Please return the permission slip as soon as possible. All 3K Monday/Wednesday students are invited to join us even though it is not their day of class. Those students can choose morning or afternoon. All other students will attend during their normal class time. Please mark the permission slip accordingly. If you or another grown up would like to chaperone, please check with me or Ms. Kim for your background status. If you need a background check complete, remember there is a $5 fee. Please do this as soon as possible! We will leave school on the bus about 15 minutes after the start of class, be gone about 2 hours, and return to school to finish our day with snack and Interest Time. If you have any questions, please reach out!
For our 3K and 4K students who also utilize Tiger Cub Care, hot lunch is an option. The lunch menu is here!
