Jesus was on trial before Pilate.  The Pharisees made up lies and told stories about Jesus in order to crucify him.  They worked with a crowd to create anger and an uproar.  Pilate could find no wrong in Jesus because Jesus had done NO WRONG!!  The crowd was taken over by the lies of the Pharisees.  Pilate ultimately approved the crucifixion because he was afraid of the crowd and the backlash.  May we remember Jesus' suffering and pain each day and live our lives in thanksgiving for all He has done! Anticipating Worship: Second Sunday of Easter, April 27, 2025—BECAUSE HE LIVES: We Have a Meaningful Mission

Image
The Sunday after Easter can seem like a bit of a letdown. Chances are the church isn’t quite as full. There might not be a choir or special instruments to go along with our hymns. Even the lilies have begun to wilt. It might feel like the fun is all over. Wrong! The adventure has just begun. Because he lives! Therefore, we have a meaningful mission. Let us open our eyes to the privilege and the opportunity. Want to hear more? See you this weekend: Saturday at 5:15 p.m. • Sunday at 8 a.m. • Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Jesus gave the first communion.  He used the bread and wine.  They were his body and blood.  He taught his disciples to pray by demonstrating his prayers in the Garden of Gethsemene.  He was persistent.  He prayed three times for the suffering to be removed.  He demonstrated humility by praying, "Your will be done."  He showed us that our Father in heaven knows best.  May we often come before the Lord with our problems and requests, our joy and rejoicing, while remembering to pray, "Your will be done." Rite of Confirmation 2025

Image
We are pleased to announce that the Rite of Confirmation for 24 young men and women will be held on Sunday, May 4th, during our regular Sunday worship services. These confirmands will publicly profess their faith in Jesus Christ and commit to lifelong faithfulness. Due to the ongoing installation of our new pipe organ, the balcony will remain closed. To accommodate this, the confirmands will be divided between our two Sunday services: 8:00 AM Service: Confirmation of our PSI students. 10:30 AM Service: Confirmation of our ELS students. The public examination of both groups of confirmands will take place between the services, beginning around 9:15 AM in the church sanctuary. To help manage the expected high attendance on Sunday morning, we encourage those who are not immediate family members of the confirmands to consider attending our Saturday evening service at 5:15 PM in the sanctuary. This would greatly assist in ensuring sufficient seating for the families of those being confirmed....

Anticipating Worship: Easter Sunday Festival Services, April 18, 2025—BECAUSE HE LIVES: We Have a Whole New Identity

Image
Death can sting in many ways. Note that word can. Because Christ lives, death has lost its sting for those who put their faith in the living Lord. So, while death may still cause tears, death does not cause dread. Because he lives, death has lost its sting. Want to hear more? See you this Easter Sunday for the Easter Festival Services at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Anticipating Worship: Easter Sunday Sunrise, April 18, 2025—BECAUSE HE LIVES: We Have a Whole New Identity

Image
It is as simple as this. Because he lives, we have a whole new identity: not sinners, but redeemed saints; not rebels, but God’s chosen nation; not doomed but saved; not only servants, but sons and daughters of God Almighty; not losers, but victorious, because Christ gives us the victory. The living Lord has given us a whole new identity. It is all because of him. It is all because he lives. Want to hear more? See you this Easter Sunday for the Sunrise Service at 6:00 a.m. Easter Festival services are planned for 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Anticipating Worship: Good Friday Service of Darkness (Tenebrae), April 18, 2025—Signs of Salvation: The Cross

Image
Why is it so dark? Tenebrae (ten’ eh bray) is an ancient rite of the Church. The Latin word “Tenebrae” means “darkness”. During this service, the candles will be extinguished, and lights will be progressively dimmed. In this, we remember that God the Father cloaked the land with darkness during the death of his Son (Matthew 27:45). This service is a time for personal meditation and prayer. There is no preservice music. The altar remains stripped bare. There are moments of silence to reflect on the magnitude of Christ’s sacrificial love. But our remembrance of Jesus’ death, while solemn, is not a message of gloom. Rather, it is an opportunity for adoration, giving thanks to God for the Son who offered himself for the life of the world, “loving us to the end.” Not only do the seven words spoken from the cross feature prominently in the service, but so also do the details of Jesus’ burial at the end of the service. The cross proclaims a message of unmistakable power. But the cave proclaim...

Anticipating Worship: Good Friday, April 18, 2025—Signs of Salvation: The Cross

Image
What makes Good Friday Good? The day on which Christians commemorate the death of their Savior is understandably a complex day. Even the name bears some complexity. How could a Friday full of so much sorrow be called “Good?” Christians have often expressed the answer as, “what was bad for him is indeed good for us!” But perhaps there’s more to the name than this. “Good Friday” may also derive from the Middle English “God’s Friday,” similar to how “Good-bye” comes from “God be with You”. This understanding emphasizes that God himself used this day to unleash his wrath and judgment against all human sin upon his own Son. Why the sign of the cross? The central theme of this most solemn day is the cross, a word that in the New Testament reverberates with rich and manifold meaning. During the ministry of Jesus, the shape itself would have struck fear into the hearts of any inhabitant of the Roman Empire, as it represented the ultimate penalty for disobedience. But in a single afternoon, Jes...

Anticipating Worship: Holy Thursday, April 17, 2025—Signs of Salvation: The Cup

Image
Since the time they were teenagers, and even before that, Jesus’ disciples would have been familiar with the annual celebration of the Passover meal. On a special night each spring, families would gather around a table for a meal that commemorated their rescue from slavery in Egypt. Part of the meal featured the breaking of bread made without yeast, and the sharing of a “cup of the covenant.” In it, grape wine told the story of a lamb’s blood poured out and painted above their doorposts. “The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you.” On the night before he died, Jesus infused this meal with new meaning. Now, in, with, and under the bread, Jesus' disciples would receive his body. In, with, and under the wine, Jesus would offer us his blood of the new covenant. Want to hear more? See you this Holy Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Anticipating Worship: THE SUNDAY OF THE PASSION, April 13, 2025—Signs of Salvation: The Crowd

Image
I’ve heard of “Palm Sunday...” but what’s “Passion Sunday?” The crowds that saw Jesus approaching Jerusalem could hold back no longer. They had heard his teaching, seen his miraculous works, and put their trust in him. Now, the great day had finally arrived. The Messiah had arrived in his own city. It was hard to put their expectations into words, so they chose a Hebrew word that meant a great deal to them: “HOSANNA!” “NOW SAVE US!” What a difference a week would make. By the break of day that Friday, their words would change “CRUCIFY! NOW KILL HIM!” It is such a sad story to watch unfold, almost leaves us at a loss for words. Even more stunning is that Jesus himself understood exactly what was happening and what was about to happen as he entered Jerusalem on that Sunday morning. The palms were just the preview. The real story was just about to begin. In many WELS churches, the full narrative of Jesus' final week, often referred to as the Passion, is now emphasized on the Sunday be...

Kids Invited to Palm Procession on April 12-13

Image
This weekend, we invite all children to join in a palm procession that will start each worship service. Five minutes before the service starts, children will be invited to meet at the back of the church to pick up palm branches. Caregivers are invited to walk along with young children or carry infants. After lining up, the children will start the worship service by walking down the aisle with their branches and placing them near the altar. All children will receive a palm branch to take home as a memento from the service. This will take place both on Saturday night and Sunday services. We hope your family joins us!

Midweek Lenten Service: Wednesday, April 9

Image
How does one abuse God’s commandments? By breaking them. However, there is another way to abuse God’s commandments—by striving to not break them in an effort to win God’s favor and earn our place in heaven. We conclude our Lenten series by calling out: “Lord, have mercy, for abusing your commandments!” We rest secure in the gospel truth that since Christ was lifted high on a cross, we don’t need to try and lift ourselves up to God. God’s favor, salvation, an eternity in heaven—these things are already ours! Join us for our upcoming midweek Lent series: Lord, Have Mercy. Special Midweek Devotions are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. each Wednesday evening during Lent. Join us for our Lenten suppers, available in the Fellowship Hall, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday.
